Sports and Remedial Massage
Sports and remedial massage is not just for athletes!. Although sports massage is great in the sporting environment, the techniques used can also be really beneficial in dealing with aches and pain from everyday life. In my clinic I use sports and remedial massage techniques to treat pain and dysfunction in the musculoskeletal system to keep it working in its optimal condition.
Sports massage can be used in pre and post event situations to prepare and condition muscles for activity. This can be beneficial for anyone who is active whether that be elite athletes or those enjoying sport for recreation.
For clients who do a lot of sport then a sports and remedial massage treatment can help to:-
treat any minor injuries
treat any areas of pain or discomfort
maintain range of movement
help with recovery
help to relax between after an event of between training session.
Sports and remedial massage is a great addition to a training programme. It is also beneficial before and after a sporting event to keep you in tip-top condition..
Sports and remedial massage techniques can also be used to treat people who have pain or dysfunction in their musculoskeletal system, such as sprains, strains or muscles aches and pains.
During your treatment we will discuss your lifestyle to try and understand the cause of the discomfort, i’ll then do a hands on treatment to try and help ease muscle tension and to improve your range of movement. I will then advise on some home stretching and strengthening exercise to be done to help improve the situation.
During a sports and remedial massage I will use general massage techniques including effleurage, pettrisage, friction and tapotement to warm up the areas which will be treated. This will also enable you to relax and to start calming down your nervous system. Advanced techniques including neuromuscular techniques (NMT), soft tissue release (STR), muscle energy techniques (MET), positional release and myofascial techniques may also be used to help improve range of movement and and restore normal muscle tone. This should help to reduce any pain and to increase function and movement.
Sports massage can be tailored to what you need, whether this be a full body treatment, upper body or lower body.
“I’d never had a soft tissue massage before, but… WOW, I cannot recommend it, and Peter Mercer highly enough.
After my first session I started feeling better, less pain, more movement, my initial issue was resolved after about 4 visits, a lot quicker than I thought it would take.”
